Overview

 

Panama is a founding member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). As with all shareholders, Panama appoints a Governor to represent the country on the IDB Board of Governors.

At the IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Panama is represented on the Board of Executive Directors. This position is shared with Venezuela and is held by an Executive Director elected to a three-year term by the Governors of Panama and Venezuela.

Strategy and Projects

The IDB Group’s Country Strategy with Panama for 2021-2024 aims to support the country’s economic recovery efforts and help Panama solidify its status as a high-income nation in an inclusive and sustainable manner. 

  • Modernizing Public Management: Enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector operations. 
  • Improving Basic Service Delivery: Ensuring better access to and quality of essential services. 
  • Reigniting and Diversifying Productive Activity: Stimulating and expanding economic activities for broader growth. 

The IDB Group’s support will be customized to address the needs arising from the health crisis and its socio-economic impacts, as well as to stimulate renewed economic growth. Information technology will be integrated into each strategic area, and cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, diversity, environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, and institutional strengthening will be addressed comprehensively.
