Le Panama est l'un des pays fondateurs de la Banque Interaméricaine de Développement (BID). Comme tous les actionnaires, le Panama nomme un gouverneur pour représenter le pays au sein du Conseil des Gouverneurs de la BID.
Au siège de la BID à Washington, D.C., le Panama est représenté au Conseil des Directeurs Exécutifs. Ce poste est partagé avec le Venezuela et est occupé par un directeur exécutif élu pour un mandat de trois ans par les gouverneurs du Panama et du Venezuela.

La stratégie pays du Groupe BID avec le Panama pour la période 2025-2029 vise à maximiser son impact sur le développement du pays grâce à une plus grande sélectivité et une approche intégrée à long terme. Elle a pour objectif de contribuer à consolider le Panama en tant qu’économie inclusive, diversifiée et résiliente, en tirant parti de ses avantages comparatifs pour soutenir une croissance équilibrée et durable.
La stratégie se concentre sur trois axes prioritaires :
- Services de base pour les populations vulnérables : Améliorer la prestation et l’accès équitable à des services de base de qualité, en mettant l’accent sur la santé, l’eau potable et l’assainissement.
- Renforcement de la gestion publique et de la durabilité budgétaire : Moderniser le secteur public et consolider la stabilité macroéconomique.
- Croissance durable menée par le secteur privé et valorisation des atouts stratégiques : Promouvoir un modèle de croissance économique diversifié, compétitif et écologiquement durable, avec le secteur privé comme principal moteur du développement.
Des axes transversaux comme le renforcement institutionnel, la durabilité et la résilience, ainsi que l’inclusion et l’égalité des chances viendront renforcer l’impact global de la stratégie.
Le Groupe BID est prêt à continuer d’être un partenaire stratégique clé pour le pays, en augmentant son soutien dans les secteurs prioritaires, en valorisant le rôle du secteur privé et en mettant à profit son expertise et ses capacités techniques.
