WHAT WE DO

The Climate Change and Sustainable Development Sector (CSD) advises Management on resilient development and leads the design of Bank-wide policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs in this area. It also generates sector knowledge through research, analytics, best practices, and case studies, while providing specialized technical support for operations and related activities.

CSD designs, prepares, supports implementation of, and supervises IDB operations in biodiversity, natural capital, disaster risk management, resilience and adaptation, sustainable cities, and housing and urban development. Its value added also lies in supporting operations across other sectors (IFD, INE, and SCL) to systematically integrate resilient development considerations and strengthen development effectiveness.

As sustainable and resilient development has become a strategic priority requiring a holistic approach, CSD plays a coordinating role across specialized initiatives and funds, produces cutting-edge knowledge to support the integration of sustainability into development programs, and fosters regional networks that enable cities to share lessons, innovation, and best practices.
