The Country Office of Colombia supports the policy areas that contribute to achieving the long-term vision of transforming Colombia into a high-income country with social mobility, aligned with the current National Development Plan (PND), which prioritizes institution-strengthening, inclusive economic growth based on higher productivity, and poverty reduction and social development.

The IDB Group's Strategy with Colombia 2019-2022 is structured in three strategic pillars:

(i) increase the productivity of the economy;

(ii) improve the effectiveness of public management; 

(iii) promote social mobility and consolidate the middle class.

The strategy will support cross-cutting challenges related to immigration; gender, diversity and disability; climate change; digital economy; and economic integration.

Colombia is one of the founding member countries of the IDB. Like all the shareholders, Colombia appoints a Governor, who represents the country on the Board of Governors.

For day-to-day business at the Bank's Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Colombia is represented by a chair on the Board of Executive Directors. The chair, shared with Peru, is headed by an Executive Director, who is elected to a three-year term by the Governors of Colombia and Peru.
