WHAT WE DO

The Sector of Institutions for Development (IFD) conceptualizes, prepares, supervises, and supports the execution of the Bank's operations in borrowing member countries. Additionally, it generates knowledge by leveraging its technical and operational experience.

IFD's work focuses on strengthening institutions that are critical for the region's economic growth, poverty reduction, and inequality reduction, as well as addressing the challenges of climate change. Its work covers areas such as: governance, public sector strengthening and reform, decentralization, fiscal policies and institutions, capital markets and financial institutions, and citizen security and the rule of law.

IFD is also responsible for preparing sectoral strategies and programs on institutional capacity and finance; providing sectoral technical support to borrowing member countries; and conducting research studies and analytical work, including identifying best practices and case studies in the sector.

IFD has four divisions: the Fiscal Management Division (FMM), the Innovation in Citizen Services Division (ICS), the Citizen Security Division (CIS), and the Connectivity, Markets, and Finance Division (CMF).
