EduIA Hub: Supporting the Consolidation of an Artificial Intelligence Lab for Latin America and the Caribbean

The objective of this Technical Cooperation is to support Ceibal—Uruguay's education innovation center—in consolidating its Regional Artificial Intelligence in Education Laboratory (EduIA Lab) as a hub for responsible, human-centered AI in education, the development of AI-enabled teaching and learning solutions, and regional collaboration and evidence-based policymaking. The TC will also provide operational support to national education policies, including the Program for Strengthening School Attendance in Secondary Education (PASEEM), through the development of AI-powered virtual tutoring solutions for scholarship beneficiaries and students participating in the program's welcome and onboarding strategies.

Artificial intelligence offers significant potential to address key challenges in education by enabling adaptive and personalized learning, supporting teachers in instructional planning and decision-making, and improving the identification of students' learning needs. In the context of PASEEM, AI-based virtual tutoring can complement economic incentives by providing personalized academic support and strengthening students' engagement and persistence in secondary education. Harnessing this potential requires institutional capacity, ethical frameworks, and scalable models that ensure equity and effective integration into teaching and learning processes.
