Project Status: Closed
The objective of this TC is to support universities in Latin America and the Caribbean in accelerating and improving their incorporation in the changing economic and technological environment brought about by the current technological revolution. This objective will be pursued by developing a series of case studies aiming at (i) improving the comprehension of the economic and social value of the universities in the selected countries, from a double perspective of promoting a well informed public discussion about the value of the work of the universities in the countries and regions where they operate, and also to generating suggestions for better aligning and updating university activities and programs; and to (ii) developing a better understanding of the universities that have been adapting themselves with the emerging realities of the technological revolution, with emphasis on the development of expertise for the management and development of emerging technologies, the creation of incubators or accelerators and the incorporation of entrepreneurship themes in the curriculum and university extension practices. As a result, this TC aims to make recommendations for adaptation and transformation strategies, in order to advance universities` alignment with the opportunities in the digital era, hence improving the correlation between supply and demand of human capital required by the new digital economy and enhancing the contribution of universities in their national and regional context.
