The Energy Division supports innovative work in energy in Latin America and the Caribbean. It serves as the Latin American and Caribbean Hub for the United Nations initiative Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) which seeks to achieve three main goals by 2030: to ensure universal access to modern energy services, to double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency, and to double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. The Division also supports renewable energy innovation via the IDEAS contest, which awards innovative energy projects in the region up to $200,000. In terms of innovation in data, the Division is home to an interactive Energy Database that forms part of the Energy Innovation Center.

The Energy Database is an interactive tool that shows time-series energy data and market/institutional organization in Latin America and the Caribbean and, for comparison, other major countries/regions.

A platform that gathers information from electricity distribution companies in Latin America and the Caribbean, all in one place.

The toolkit strengthens transformation and continuous improvement of electricity distribution companies. It is based on international available benchmarks and best practices. These practices are grouped in 4 areas and 16 activities that are common to most electricity utility.

RELAC stands for "REnovables in Latin America and the Caribbean". RELAC was created at the end of 2019, within the framework of the United Nations Climate Action Summit, with the objective of reaching at least 70% of renewable energy participation in the regions electricity matrix by 2030. RELAC is a regional initiative with 15 member countries, the only one of its kind in the context of Latin America and the Caribbean. For the first time, a group of countries in the region voluntarily agrees to promote renewables with:
(1) a concrete goal;
(2) a monitoring scheme; and
(3) an operating structure designed to support countries in the process.
