The IDB’s current governance framework is defined, on one hand, by the Disaster Risk Management Policy (GN-2354-5), which encourages a proactive attitude in IDB’s programming to reduce the impact of disasters in the region, which requires a comprehensive approach that pays special attention to measures taken before a threat becomes a disaster, rather than to post-disaster actions. On the other hand, the Environmental and Social Policy Framework (GN-2965-23) includes under its Performance Standard #4 Community Health and Safety the requirement for all operations financed by the Bank to be screened and designed to be resilient to disasters.
