WHAT WE DO

The External Affairs and Communications Department (EXC) is responsible for managing both external and internal communications at the IDB. EXC coordinates communications and outreach activities across IDB headquarters and country offices, supporting the Bank’s efforts to disseminate knowledge to shape public policy and private sector decision-making to promote sustainable and equitable development.

EXC is central to the IDB’s strategic operations, reporting directly to the Bank’s President. The department manages communications for the IDB President and top management and coordinates communications for operational teams at both headquarters and country offices. EXC oversees the Bank’s brand, website, intranet, social media channels, marketing, event logistics, protocol, cultural activities, and art exhibits, as well as outreach activities to key stakeholders, including civil society and governments.

The department comprises the Communications Division (DCC) and the External Affairs Unit (EXA). DCC manages executive, corporate, and internal communications, including event logistics. EXA oversees engagement with civil society, outreach to governments, protocol, and the IDB’s art collection and cultural activities.
