Overview

Mexico, as one of the founding member countries of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), plays a pivotal role in its governance. Like all IDB shareholders, Mexico appoints a Governor to represent the country on the IDB Board of Governors.

At the IDB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Mexico is represented on the Board of Executive Directors. This position is shared with the Dominican Republic. The chair is occupied by an Executive Director, who is elected for a three-year term by the Governors of both Mexico and the Dominican Republic. This representation ensures that Mexico has a key voice in the IDB’s daily operations and decision-making processes.

Strategy and Projects

The primary goal of the IDB Group’s Country Strategy with Mexico for the 2019-2024 period is to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth while enhancing productivity.

This strategy is closely aligned with the Government’s National Development Plan 2019-2024 and focuses on three key areas:

  • Supporting Equitable and Sustainable Access to Social Services: Ensuring that all segments of the population have fair and sustainable access to essential social services.
  • Encouraging Increased Investment: Promoting a more dynamic investment climate to stimulate economic activity and growth.
  • Fostering Balanced and Sustainable Regional Development: Advancing regional development in a way that is balanced and sustainable across various regions.

To maximize the effectiveness and sustainability of initiatives funded by the IDB Group, the strategy emphasizes the integration of key themes such as institutional quality and transparency, innovation and the digital agenda, climate change, and gender equality and diversity. These cross-cutting themes will be incorporated into various sectors to ensure comprehensive and impactful results.
