The Country Office of Colombia supports the policy areas that contribute to achieving the long-term vision of transforming Colombia into a high-income country with social mobility, aligned with the current National Development Plan (PND), which prioritizes institution-strengthening, inclusive economic growth based on higher productivity, and poverty reduction and social development.

Overview

 

Colombia is one of the founding member countries of the IDB. Like all the shareholders, Colombia appoints a Governor, who represents the country on the Board of Governors.

For day-to-day business at the Bank's Headquarters in Washington, D.C., Colombia is represented by a chair on the Board of Executive Directors. The chair, shared with Peru, is headed by an Executive Director, who is elected to a three-year term by the Governors of Colombia and Peru.

Strategy and Projects

The IDB Group's Strategy with Colombia 2019-2022 is built on three key strategic pillars:

  1. Boost Economic Productivity: Enhance the efficiency and output of Colombia's economy.
  2. Enhance Public Management: Improve the effectiveness and transparency of government operations.
  3. Foster Social Mobility and Strengthen the Middle Class: Promote upward social mobility and consolidate a robust middle class.

This strategy addresses critical cross-cutting issues such as immigration, gender equality, diversity and disability inclusion, climate change, digital economy, and economic integration.
