Overview

 

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) operates in The Bahamas through appointed Governors who represent the country on the Board of Governors.

For daily operations at the Bank's Washington, D.C. headquarters, The Bahamas shares a seat on the Board of Executive Directors with Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. This seat is led by an Executive Director elected to a three-year term by the Governors of these countries.

Strategy and Projects
The new IDB Group Country Strategy 2024–2028 for The Bahamas aims to enhance resilience and fully support the government’s Blueprint for Change and National Development Plan to achieve inclusive and sustainable development. The strategy focuses on four key areas:
 
  1. Disaster risk management
  2. Strengthening public sector governance
  3. Boosting private sector competitiveness
  4. Promoting human development and citizen security
These priorities incorporate cross-cutting themes including gender and diversity, climate change and environmental sustainability, and institutional capacity and the rule of law.
 

Country strategies remain valid for one year beyond the stated period, as they remain active throughout the preparation of the following strategy.
