Awareness-Building and Baseline Research on Children with Disabilities
Additional Operation Objectives include the sensitisation of the relevant stakeholders to the stigma attached to disabilities and the social challenge it creates. This sensitisation will result in human and financial resources being earmarked for future studies and programmes that will reduce the level of exclusion faced by children with disabilities. Also, in recognising the unique needs of children with disabilities, Families in Action aims to serve as a comprehensive resource to facilitate their education and, later, integration into the national human resource base.Given the potential success of this awareness building and baseline research collection process, gathered information will not only inform statistics on the responses to the design and implementation of appropriate national programs to address the issue, but there could also be opportunities to replicate this model within other Caribbean and national agendas.
