Tourism Statistics

The general objective of this technical cooperation is to allow the Government of Guatemala to measure the economic importance of turism to obtain exact knowledge of this sector and its impact on the national economy . This will be done through the implementation of the Turism Satellite Account (TSA). The specific objectives are: 1) Improve the process of preparing turism-related statistics and to establish regularities in its generation and distribution; 2) Integrate and standardize, within the framework of national account system, the existing information on turistic activities generated by different sources; 3) Identify the real participation of turism in the national economy and the existing relations with other productive sectors listed in the national accounting system; 4) Quantify, analize, describe, compare and estimate the economic contribution of turism throughte utilization of variables, from the demand side as well as from the supply side - such as employment, gloss formation of fixed capital, direct value added, turistic consumption, fiscal income, and balance of payment, among others.
