The objective is to analyze information and recommend concrete nutrition investment opportunities for Central American countries and the Bank in health, education, social protection, local development and community participation and urban poverty alleviation. To reach its objective the project will: (i) perform secondary analysis of available data on the determinants of chronic malnutrition in specific population groups, including the relation between food security and nutrition, food safety and nutrition, and health and nutrition; (ii) provide robust analyses of differences in malnutrition prevalence rates for different populations within countries and across countries; (iii) identify priority target groups for preventive nutrition initiatives in Central American countries, including a comparative analysis of groups in border zones and groups in other geographical areas; (iv) recommend improved and expanded preventive, nutrition-related services for stand-alone projects and for basic health and social protection packages financed by the Bank; (v) undertake comparative impact, cost and cost-effectiveness analyses of selected current and potential preventive nutrition interventions in other social sectors, and (iv) evaluate the institutional framework for nutrition policy and preventive nutrition investments in at least three countries in the region.
