Empowering IDB & LAC: Mainstreaming Biodiversity & Natural Capital for Sustainable Growth

General Objective: Promote the systematic integration of biodiversity and natural capital into IDB operations and member countries' development frameworks, thereby boosting resilience, sustainability, and adherence to global goals (e.g., the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework). Specific Objectives: 1. Knowledge Generation: Produce and disseminate sector-specific analyses, guidance documents, and digital resources that inform evidence-based decision-making. 2. Support to Governments: Assist LAC countries in refining NBSAPs, identifying financing opportunities, and conducting capacity-building sessions that drive policy reforms and attract new nature-positive investments. 3. Institutional Coordination: Strengthen collaboration among IDB Country Offices, the Biodiversity and Natural Capital Unit (BNC), and government agencies to promote nature-positive solutions across sectors. 4. Capacity Enhancement: Train IDB staff (Andean, Southern Cone, CCB, CID) on methodologies, indicators, and best practices to embed biodiversity throughout project cycles. 5. Belem Alignment: Facilitate a specialized consultancy to harmonize biodiversity-climate indicators, creating a shared framework that reinforces climate-nature synergies, especially around COP16 and COP30. By achieving these objectives, the proposal will deliver both organizational shifts within the IDB and high-impact actions in LAC countries, ensuring that biodiversity and natural capital remains integral to the region's sustainable development trajectory.
