Innovations Opportunities in the Development of Mobile Services
The objective of this initiative is to position the Bank as a leading technical advisor for the borrowing member countries ready to identify, design and fund innovative programs and activities that would take advantage of mobile telephony technologies to improve the life conditions and opportunities of the majority. To accomplish this objective, the initiative will help identify specific opportunities for the Bank's action, and will also allow the Bank to establish contacts and potential agreements or partnerships with those actors, particularly in the private sector, that might be involved in the development and provision of mobile services such as telcos, banks, micro-financers, high-tech manufacturers, systems integration consulting firms, as well as governments, at national and local level, among others. The Bank is in a unique position to combine, articulate and support the interests of the different actors in order to drive the effective implementation of mobile services in the region, both at country and regional level.
