Project Status: Closed
Assessing the impact of the WaWaRed in pregnant women attending their first prenatal visit before 20 weeks gestation in the Health Centers of the Network window - Callao comparing a group randomly assigned to receive a control intervention. Specific objectives: 1. In the group of pregnant women who use cellular movistar and attending their first antenatal care (ANC) before 20 weeks, to assess the impact of the intervention in (1) the number of CPN attended by pregnant women and the proportion of pregnant women attending 6 or more CPN, (2) the number of appointments attended by CPN in the schedule, (3) self-reported adherence to taking prenatal vitamins (folic acid and iron), (4) hematocrit control the third quarter, adjusted for the baseline hematocrit (5), complications during pregnancy and birth (abortion, number of documented urinary tract infections, caesarean section, eclampsia, bleeding etc.), (5) weight of the newborn (6) complications of the newborn . 2. In the group of pregnant women who do not use phones and attending their first antenatal care (ANC) before 20 weeks, to assess the impact of the intervention, comparing a group assigned at random to give them a cell phone versus a group control in (1) the number of appointments attended by CPN in the schedule, (2) the number of prenatal visits attended by, (3) self-reported adherence to taking prenatal vitamins (folic acid iron), (4) hematocrit control the third quarter, adjusted for the baseline hematocrit (5), complications during pregnancy and birth (abortion, number of documented urinary tract infections, caesarean section, eclampsia, bleeding etc.), (5) weight of the newborn (6) complications of the newborn. Study population: The number of pregnant women attending a prenatal care year in the district of Ventanilla is estimated at 6100 (Source: SSRR DIRESA Callao), of which only 35% (2135) goes to her first prenatal visit before 20 weeks (Source: Project SWAN). It has been documented through another project that approximately 70% (1495) of pregnant women have a cell phone in the district of Ventanilla, of which 54% (808) is served by Movistar. (Source: WawaRed). This proposal aims to study two populations. The first population consists of pregnant women who have cell and go before 20 weeks of gestation in their first prenatal visit. We are limiting ourselves to those who have cell company Movistar (808) that the company is supporting the project WawaRed covering the costs of text messages but only for their phones. And, the second population consists of pregnant women without a cellphone (30%) and attending their first prenatal visit before 20 weeks gestation (640 pregnant). The reason for including this second group is to isolate the possible bias that those pregnant women who already use or have cell are themselves "different" from those without.
