Support for Micronutrient Intervention of PAININ

The main objective of this project is to provide the necessary support to the Ministry of the Family (MIFAMILIA) of Nicaragua in the development and execution of an innovative nutrition component as part of the new phase of the Integral Program for Early Childhood Development (NI-L1009). The nutrition component consists in the provision of sprinkles (sachets containing iron (12,5g), vitamin A (300 g), folic acid (120 g), vitamin C (30g) and Zinc (5 g) in powder form) to all of the 87,000 children beneficiaries of the Program, as well as to approximately 13,000 breastfeeding and pregnant women, and the main impact from this component is expected to be the reduction in anemia in the target population, and more indirectly, the improvement in educational outcomes of the children. The specific objectives of this TC will be (i) to provide the necessary technical assistance to process the order of the sprinkles; and (ii) to build capacity among Ministry and NGO staff on the use and safety of sprinkles, how to train voluntary mothers, and how to monitor compliance and effect.
