GU-T1169 : Control of the Neglected Tropical Diseases in Guatemala

Project Status: Closed

1.08 million people living in targeted municipalities are considered at risk in various health dimensions related to water and sanitary conditions. The central objective is to improve health conditions particularly in Sololá and Alta Verapaz, through investments in infrastructure and equipment improvement, and through training personnel from 180 health centers. The model will be extended to other municipalities once its success is verified. Project Components: The project finances the following components: 1. Inter sectoral coordination for the creation of a national integrated Plan for controlling water and sanitation related diseases. 2. Mapping for improving information systems on health services, health protocols, and prevalence of trachoma lisehmania, and other related diseases. 3. Education and training at the community level for monitoring and evaluation purposes on local health practices. 4. Follow up, monitoring and evaluation of the intervention. 5. Support for regional interventions. 6. Preventive treatment in selected localities, identifying populations that were exposed to preventive practices.
