Strengthening the Indigenous Health Subsystem

This technical cooperation proposal will seek to strengthen the technical capacities of the Secretariat of Indigenous Health (SESAI), the Special Indigenous Sanitary Districts (DSEIS) and other relevant actors, through the production of knowledge on programs aimed at exploring alternatives and technologies for permanent water supply, as well as the development of protocols to address climate emergencies and environmental disasters in the region, such as the recent example of extreme droughts and the emergency affecting Yanomami peoples. The technical cooperation will support the strengthening of protocols and information systems, and the development of diagnostic studies to expand institutional capacities to respond to climate emergencies in the Amazon region, with a special focus on Indigenous Territories. The indigenous populations of the Amazon Region, approximately 208 thousand people from 180 indigenous peoples in Brazil, will be the direct beneficiaries of the Cooperation. On the other hand, technical agents of the federal government, the DSEIS and the subnational governments (states and municipalities) would be the indirect beneficiaries, given that their capacities will be strengthened to face these challenges, through the development of technical studies and analysis, training and seminars that will allow the generation of evidence and the exchange of knowledge on practices and lessons relevant to the area.
