The IDB expresses its sincere gratitude to the Japanese people for the approval by Parliament of the amendment of the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest) accession bill on April 11th, 2025.
Japan has been a committed partner to the IDB and to Latin America and the Caribbean for nearly 50 years—as our first non-regional member, and now as a driving force behind our transformation into a private-sector-focused Multilateral Development Bank. Strong cultural and human ties, including Nikkei communities across the region, further reinforce this connection.
This approval marks a milestone in our partnership and strengthens our shared commitment to mobilize private capital, including through our new Originate-to-Share business model, and to expand opportunities across Latin America and the Caribbean—helping the region play a larger role in addressing global challenges.
As the IDB President Ilan Goldfajn noted, it “sends a powerful message regarding Japan’s enduring commitment to improving lives across Latin America and the Caribbean through private-sector-led development and multilateral cooperation.”
We are honored to count on Japan as a strategic partner and look forward to deepening this collaboration in the years ahead.
