The CONACYT-SENER Fund for Energy Sustainability (FSE) and the IDEAS program of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announce the 2014 call for proposals to fund innovate energy project in Mexico and the Latin American and Caribbean regions.
The FSE-IDEAS call for proposals represents a milestone in the history of science, technology and energy innovation in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. Its importance lies in its financing of projects for the investigation and development of novel technologies in the energy sector, with the potential to benefit the entire region.
This year, FSE-IDEAS seeks to support projects proposed by consortia led by Mexican institutions of higher education or centers of investigation in partnership with countries of the region, as well as proposals for energy innovation from individuals in any other borrowing member Countries of the IDB.
Winners of this year's contest in the consortia and individual categories will receive up to $200,000 for projects for technological and development investigations designed to promote the integration and innovation of high-impact technologies in the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. Application must be received by January 15, 2015.
On Sept. 5 2011, Mexico's Secretariat of Energy and the National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT) and the IDB, with the support of the government of South Korea, announced the first joint call for proposals to finance projects for applied investigations and technological development in the area of sustainable energy.
In the 2011 FSE-DEAS contest, nine winners were selected in the categories of individuals and consortia led by a Mexican institution of higher education or investigation center, with awards totaling approximately $2.2 million.
The IDEAS Energy Innovation Contest is an initiative that seeks to support the development of innovative projects that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, bio-fuels and access to energy in rural areas. Since its first launch in 2009, it has received more than 2,300 proposals from 28 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean and 53 winners have been selected.
This year, besides having the support of the FSE fund, IDEAS is also receiving support from by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the IDB group, and the government of South Korea.
