KRIVET Joins IDB Coalition to Promote Transversal Skills for the 21st Century

The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) has joined the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB’s) 21st Century Skills Coalition in Latin America and the Caribbean. KRIVET will leverage its expertise to help with technical and vocational education and training to improve learning and boost job creation and growth in the region.

The 21st Century Skills Coalition is an open, multi-sector partnership led by the IDB that supports a new generation of education and training policies in the Bank’s 26 borrowing member countries. Since October 2019, the Coalition has brought together the public and private sectors to support the development of transversal skills that are critical for success in the rapidly changing 21st-century labor market.

KRIVET will share its broad experience and expertise in human development, collaborating with the Bank to generate knowledge and identify the competencies required to improve technical and vocational education, training and lifelong learning.

KRIVET’s addition to the Coalition will also help to exchange information about career and education policies and programs that could be adapted and provided to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

During a recent visit by IDB specialists to KRIVET’s headquarters in Korea, the organization presented its Career Information Network (CareerNet) service, which supports career design and choices by offering information on jobs, majors and education opportunities.

The organization will also share career guidance and know-how about its Meister high-school system, the high-performing technical and vocational education model in Korea. Meister high schools have achieved high employment rates, employers’ satisfaction with graduates’ competencies and improved perceptions about vocational education.
