Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique V. Iglesias telephoned Brazil’s president-elect, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to congratulate him on the strong backing he received from the Brazilian people to become their next president.
Iglesias said Sunday’s vote constituted “a victory for democracy that all Latin Americans celebrate along with the Brazilian people.” The IDB, he added, is ready to continue supporting Brazil’s efforts “to achieve a dynamic and socially equitable development.” Iglesias also wished the Brazilian president-elect every success in his administration.
