Strengthening Collaboration with JICA
In a productive meeting with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), IDB representatives and JICA’s Vice President discussed collaborative strategies for driving development across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Key topics included enhancing development outcomes and advancing private sector financing initiatives, highlighting the mutual commitment of IDB and JICA to align strategies for maximum impact in the LAC region.
Strategic Dialogues with JBIC and Japan’s Ministry of Finance
IDB officials also engaged with executives from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Japan’s Ministry of Finance, focusing on financing and investment strategies for LAC. Discussions centered on potential co-financing structures, risk-sharing models, and priority development sectors, emphasizing Japan’s role in promoting sustainable growth and resilience across the region through cooperative ventures with IDB.
Investment Seminar in Tokyo
On October 30, IDB and IDB Invest hosted an investment seminar at Tokyo’s Fukokuseimei Building, drawing more than 60 participants interested in LAC development. Speakers included IDB Invest CEO James P. Scriven, who presented IDB Invest’s strategy for sustainable growth, and Miguel Coronado, General Manager for the Andes region, who outlined regional priorities. Laura Vélez, CFO of IDB Lab, highlighted the Lab’s focus on innovation and social impact. A Q&A session concluded the event, fostering discussions on co-financing, digital innovation, and strengthening connections with Japanese corporates and investors. Furthermore, the IDB delegations met with Japanese corporates by the arrangement of the Japan Economic Federations and Global Business Investment Support Office (GBIS) of the Japanese Government.

Academic Outreach at Waseda University and the University of Tokyo
On October 31, IDB representatives led career seminars at Waseda University and the University of Tokyo, aiming to inspire students interested in development finance and introduce them to career opportunities at the IDB. Represented by Mr. Andre Soares, Chief of the IDB’s Office of the Presidency, the IDB delegation presented IDB’s mission, emphasizing its commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth in LAC, and encouraged students to pursue careers dedicated to addressing regional challenges.
