IDB selects 16 most innovative startups to take part in Demand Solutions

Ideas for Improving Quality of Life, which will be held December 2, 2014 at IDB headquarters, aims to bring together creative minds offering innovative solutions to development challenges around the world

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) announced today 16 startup companies in Latin America that have been chosen from among more than 200 in 22 countries that applied to take part in Ideas for Improving Quality of Life.

The companies selected are:

A founder from each startup selected will travel to Washington, D.C. to take part in Demand Solutions, present their companies to potential investors on Venture Night and work with specialists in innovation, creativity and marketing.

The process of choosing the firms was carried out with the help of expert juries in areas including entrepreneurship, innovation and crowdfunding.

The judges assessed the products and services provided by the startups, which work in the areas of Social Change, Gaming for Social Good, Cities and Climate Change, Health and Wellness, Education and Open Knowledge, Government and Citizen Participation and Technology in Financial Services.

The co-founders of the startups with also work with Fly Garage, a Mondeléz International innovation incubator, as well as +Castro, Contagious and You Noodle in activities designed to boost their entrepreneurial creativity and keep enhancing their work and impact.

IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno will inaugurate the event and introduce the chosen startups.

Ideas for Improving Quality of Life is being held for the second straight year at the headquarters of the IDB in collaboration with the Blum Center for Developing Economies of the University of California, Berkeley. This year it will be held December 2 starting at 9:00 am EST.
