The Inter-American Development Bank will hold a seminar on Friday, Nov. 7, to explain its financing of modernization and reform of the state programs in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as projects to strengthen civil society, competitiveness and integration.
The president of Peru’s National Council for Decentralization, Luis Thais, will deliver a keynote address at a luncheon on “Decentralization in Peru: A Success Story.”
The seminar will take place in the Andrés Bello Auditorium at Bank on the 7th floor of Bank headquarters in Washington, D.C. Registration is at 8:30 a.m., to be followed by a presentation providing an overview of the Bank’s annual lending program. Opportunities to participate in 13,000 contracts generated annually by IDB activity and procurement rules and procedures will be explained .
Since the Bank’s inception about 17 percent of the total loans of $118 billion have been dedicated to programs to support reform and modernization of the state. Last year lending in this area totaled $662 million.
During the seminar Bank specialists will discuss lending in areas such as fiscal modernization, justice reform, fighting corruption, strengthening of civil society, citizen’s security and governance.
Participants will learn how Bank projects are initiated and developed and how to stay informed about present and future IDB activities.
They will also have opportunities to meet one-on-one with IDB specialists who will explain past and upcoming operations and bidding procedures.
