IDB Group Launches 7th Edition of Superheroes of Development to Recognize Project Executors

The call will be open from May 20 to June 28, 2024

The Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Group) launched the seventh edition of the Superheroes of Development contest to recognize clients and executing institutions excelling in the successful resolution of challenges during the implementation stage of development projects.

Superheroes of Development is a BIDAcademy initiative that rewards the best lessons learned from operations containing stories that have the potential of helping other initiatives attain effective implementation.

Studying the challenging path that others have followed can help accelerate the learning curve for the next team, whose undertaking may be different but whose problems may be similar or comparable.

"We are a Knowledge Bank, and as such, the knowledge we produce has to have an impact, it has to transform lives. That’s why it is vital to strengthen knowledge and learning opportunities throughout the project cycle,” said Lorena Rodríguez Bu, head of the IDB's Knowledge and Learning Division. “Lessons learned are knowledge inputs that contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of our operations. This is what Superheroes of Development, an initiative that values both the results and the path taken to achieve them, is all about."

The contest recognizes our partners and customers in two categories:

Category 1: IDB projects in the implementation phase that have had at least a first disbursement, or where the IDB Invest or IDB Lab client has received financing.

Category 2: Projects that have been completed in or after January 2016.

Interested parties should fill out the online form available on the initiative's webpage, where they will also find contest rules and regulations. The IDB Group will share the winning stories throughout the region. The four finalists will be invited to participate in an awards ceremony to be held at IDB headquarters in Washington, D.C.

In the 2023 edition, 141 proposals from 25 countries in the region were submitted, almost twice as many as the previous year – an outstanding success. Teams from Haiti and Peru were the winners. The publication Lessons Learned that Impact Lives tells the stories of the five 2023 finalist teams and the lessons learned from that edition.
