IDB Group and Italy Agree to Establish Cooperation Facility to Mobilize Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean

BANGKOK — The Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Group) and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), Italy’s national promotional institution, signed an agreement to establish a cooperation facility aimed at identifying, preparing, and mobilizing investment-ready projects across Latin America and the Caribbean. The partnership will help unlock investment, expand financing opportunities, and strengthen business ties between Italy and the region.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, the collaboration may support co-financing, risk-sharing and blended-finance structures, as well as technical assistance for public and private sector operations.

Areas of cooperation include critical minerals, energy security, sustainable transport and logistics, water resource management, resilient infrastructure, biodiversity and natural capital, agribusiness, and food security.

The agreement will also help connect Italian companies, technologies, goods, and services with projects and partners in the region through BID for the Americas, the IDB Group's program that promotes business opportunities and strengthens commercial ties between Latin America and the Caribbean and international partners.

Building on initial cooperation through IDB LAC Minerals, the IDB Group’s regional platform for responsible mining and sustainable mineral value chains, the MoU establishes a broader framework for collaboration between Italy and Latin America and the Caribbean.
