IDB, Darby LAMF, sign $75 million for private sector Latin American infrastructure fund

Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique V. Iglesias and Nicholas Brady, the chairman and chief exececutive officer of of Darby Overseas Investments, Ltd., today signed documents for a $75 million loan to Darby LAMF, an emerging markets fund designed to address shortfalls in the availability of long-term subordinated debt financing for infrastructure projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The fund will offer a type of financing – mezzanine financing, combining debt and equity features – that has not been generally available in Latin America.

The Bank’s support of the fund will help catalyze private sector investment in such infrastructure sectors as water, transportation, power and telecommunications. Through its investments in infrastructure projects and companies, the fund will contribute to the economic development of the region.
