The government of Haiti and the Inter-American Development Bank will co-host a donors conference in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, April 14, with the participation of delegations from donor countries and international organizations.
The conference will focus on the international community’s support on priority projects in the Haitian government’s economic recovery plan, a two-year program aimed at generating 150,000 jobs by promoting investments in sectors such as infrastructure and manufacturing.
Haiti Prime Minister Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis and IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno will co-chair the conference, which will be held at the IDB’s headquarters.
The morning session, which will be open to accredited media, will be held in the auditorium of the Enrique V. Iglesias Conference Center, 1330 New York Ave, NW, Washington, D.C, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Canada Minister of International Cooperation Beverly Oda, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza and Open Society Institute Chairman George Soros are scheduled to speak during the morning session.
France Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Rama Yade, International Monetary Fund Deputy Managing Director Takatoshi Kato and World Bank Managing Director Juan José Daboub will also speak in the morning.
After a luncheon featuring a keynote presentation by former U.S. President William J. Clinton, delegates will reconvene for a closed session. Haitian Finance Minister Daniel Dorsainvil, Planning and External Cooperation Minister Jean-Max Bellerive and IDB Executive Vice President Daniel Zelikow are due to close the conference at 4:45 p.m.
