Governments Nominate Five Candidates for IDB Presidency

Member countries have proposed five candidates for the position of President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The nomination period closed on Friday, November 11, 2022.

  • Cecilia Todesca Bocco was nominated by Argentina.
  • Gerard Johnson was nominated by Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Gerardo Esquivel Hernández was nominated by Mexico.
  • Ilan Goldfajn was nominated by Brazil.
  • Nicolás Eyzaguirre Guzmán was nominated by Chile.

The IDB's Governors, who are usually finance ministers or other high-ranking economic authorities from the Bank’s 48 member countries, will have the opportunity to interview the candidates at a virtual meeting on November 13, 2022.

The election is set to take place at a hybrid meeting of the Board of Governors on November 20, 2022.
