Kieran Bradley is a native of Northern Ireland, and has both Irish and United Kingdom nationalities. He was a judge of the Civil Service Tribunal of the European Union for five years, and is currently chairman or vice-chairman of staff appeals bodies at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the European Space Agency and a United Nations agency. He also provides expertise in staff law for a number of European Union institutions, and is a member (and former vice-Chair) of the Scientific Committee of the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency.

Prior to his judicial career, he was a legal advisor at the European Parliament for twenty-five years, latterly as Director for Administrative Law. In his capacity as a member of Parliament’s Legal Service, he argued several dozen cases before the courts of the European Union, principally on constitutional issues. He also worked for five years as the head of the private office of Advocate General Nial Fennelly at the European Court of Justice. From 2016 to 2019 was the Court’s Special Adviser on Brexit.

He currently teaches postgraduate courses in law in a number of European universities and institutes, and has also taught at Harvard Law School and the University of Melbourne, as well as publishing widely. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a degree in Legal Science, and has a postgraduate diploma from the College of Europe (Bruges), and a Master’s and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
