Social Protection
The IDB Group promotes income support for the poor or vulnerable population (with focus on both structural poverty and vulnerability to shocks), and the autonomy of persons in a situation of care dependence and persons with disabilities.

Labor
The IDB promotes productive, resilient, and inclusive labor markets in Latin America and the Caribbean, supporting governments in the region to ensure people have equal access to good employment opportunities.

Gender and Diversity
The IDB promotes gender equality and development with identity of the region’s Afro-descendants and indigenous peoples through policies, strategic orientation, and technical assistance and training.

Early Childhood Development
The IDB Group’s work in Early Childhood Development (ECD) focuses on ensuring that all children, and particularly those in poor and vulnerable households, have the opportunity to develop their potential from the first years of life through significant experiences that are rich in quality interactions at home, in childcare, and in preschool. For this to occur, the adults responsible for children in these environments need to have the resources, knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to promote ECD.

The Early Childhood Development Sector Framework Document (SFD) presents actions that impact ECD levels, particularly among the most vulnerable groups, and therefore help close gaps. These actions involve providing high-quality ECD services on both a large, national scale and a more targeted scale: family support programs (FSP) for remote and at risk populations and large-scale center-based programs (CBP; childcare centers and preschools), including remote and hybrid modalities (HM) of delivering such programs. This SFD also covers policies to address ECD determinants, such as maternal and child health and nutrition and poverty. These policies promote gender equality and the care economy by promoting access to quality CBP, improved ECD workforce labor conditions, and a more equitable distribution of care responsibilities at home. The success of these actions depends on coordination across sectors, levels of government, and the private sector, and on well-funded policies with strong political support.

Skills Development

The IDB Group supports countries from the region to promote skills development and lifelong learning as a strategy to ensure that citizens can contribute productively to society, improve their well-being, and be good citizens.
