Since its opening in 1992, the IDB ArtLAC Gallery, formerly known as IDB Cultural Center, has provided a unique platform in downtown Washington D.C. to explore the works of contemporary artists from Latin America and the Caribbean. These artists place development and culture at the heart of their creative expression.
Each exhibition is accompanied by a series of public events, offering deeper insights through conversations with artists, curators, and IDB specialists.
Our exhibitions and cultural events aim to spark creativity and inspire the public, influencers, and future decision-makers with innovative solutions to the ongoing development challenges in our region.
Today, the IDB ArtLAC Gallery has established itself as a unique space to experience and explore contemporary Latin American and the Caribbean art in the D.C. area.

The exhibition celebrates the connections among artists from Latin America and the Caribbean featured in the IDB’s permanent Art Collection. Bringing together a wide range of works, the exhibit brings to light shared experiences of exchange, kinship, material exploration, as well as a deep connection to nature in the artists’ trajectories. It features renowned Latin American and Caribbean artists, such as Olga de Amaral, Gracia Barrios, Fanny Sanín, and Mercedes Pardo, as well as a site-specific commission by Argentine artist Carolina Carubín.
In addition to the main display at the IDB ArtLAC Gallery, “Unseen Threads” will be presented as a multi-venue exhibition with satellite locations at the embassies of Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay in Washington, D.C. All venues will open during Hispanic Heritage Month, creating a collaborative platform to showcase and amplify the artistic heritage of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Unseen Threads: Weaving Connections Across Latin American and Caribbean Art” will run from September 5, 2025 to January 30, 2026. Visitors can expect to spend approximately 45 to 60 minutes exploring the exhibition.
