Chile and Ecuador
Jorge Gallardo-Zavala is a commercial engineer from Guayaquil. He graduated from Universidad Católica de Guayaquil, where he also studied advanced economics. Years later, he completed two master's degrees in business administration at ISEA and the University of Kansas, United States. He was a Fulbright scholar.
In 1998 Mr. Gallardo-Zavala joined Harvard University’s Weatherhead Center for International Affairs as a fellow. He served as president of Banco Continental in 1996, and as Minister of Economy in the administrations of Rodrigo Borja (1992) and Gustavo Noboa (2000).
In 2000 Mr. Gallardo-Zavala served as president of Banco del Pacífico. His work experience in recent years has been in the private sector. From 2010 to the present, he has consulted at MB Grupo (which manages the MerchantBansa and MerchantValores brands).
Mr. Gallardo-Zavala has also headed up research for Ecuador Libre, a think tank founded on liberal principles by current President Guillermo Lasso. He has held professorships at various universities in Ecuador and recently represented Ecuador at the International Monetary Fund.
