Chief Advisor in the Office of the Executive Vice President

A citizen of Japan, Chiaki Yamamoto is the Chief Advisor to the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO).

Ms. Yamamoto has more than 25 years of operational, analytical, and strategic experience in development.  She has worked in the areas of infrastructure, health, public-private partnership, and development effectiveness, covering Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Central Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Before assuming her current post, Ms. Yamamoto served as Senior Operations Advisor to the EVP/COO and as Lead Evaluation Economist in the Office of Evaluation and Oversight. Prior to joining the IDB Group in 2020, she held a range of positions at the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation. Her portfolio has included public-sector operations in infrastructure and health, as well as PPP transaction advisory services, the design of results-measurement systems for investment and advisory operations, and the leadership of major cross-institutional initiatives. Across these roles, she has been recognized for pairing analytical rigor with practical, operational solutions to strengthen development effectiveness.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Development Studies from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Laws in International Legal Studies from Sophia University.
