Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay
Mario Guillén is Executive Director for Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay at the Inter-American Development Bank.
He studied industrial engineering at Escuela Militar de Ingeniería engineering school and law at Universidad Mayor de San Andrés, both in Bolivia. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Universidad Católica Boliviana.
He began his professional career in the Bolivian financial system to later dedicate himself to the public sector for over 20 years, serving as Superintendent of Pensions, Securities, and Insurance; Deputy Minister of Pensions and Financial Services, and Minister of Economy and Public Finance.
Mr. Guillén’s last post before being appointed as Executive Director for Bolivia at the IDB was General Manager of Banco Unión S.A. of Bolivia.
He has taught at several Bolivian universities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
His leading roles representing his country include Chairman of the Board of the CAF, Director at Banco del ALBA, and accredited representative for the establishment of Banco del Sur.
