Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua
Mr. Eddy Carpio, a Guatemalan citizen, currently serves as Executive Director for Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua, at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest).
Prior to joining the IDB and the IDB Invest, he developed his professional career at the Central Bank of Guatemala between 2000 and 2023, where he held many positions, the last being Director of the Department of Macroeconomic Analysis and permanent advisor to the Monetary Board, where he led some initiatives regarding improvement in the design and evaluation of the monetary, exchange rate, and credit policies of his country; and also he was in charge of coordinating the relations of the Banco de Guatemala with the main international financial organizations.
He has taught at Universidad de San Carlos and Universidad Rafael Landívar, in the areas of mathematics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. He is also the co-author of some working papers, including: "The pass-through effect of the exchange rate on prices in Guatemala," published by the Center for Latin American Monetary Studies; and, "Economic Growth and Inequality in Guatemala," published by the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
He holds a degree in Economics from Universidad de San Carlos, Guatemala; he also has a master's degree in Economics from Texas A&M University, United States; and a postgraduate degree in Finance from Universidad Valparaíso, Chile.
