Chile and Ecuador
Carlos Álvarez Voullième is a civil/industrial engineer who holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Chile and a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University. He has served at the helm of public institutions dedicated to competitiveness and technological innovation policies and has held executive positions at international development organizations.
With respect to work experience, Mr. Álvarez was appointed as Undersecretary of the Economy in 2004, a position he held until 2006 when he became Executive Vice President of CORFO, the Chilean economic development agency. In 2010, he was elected Deputy Director of the OECD Development Centre based in Paris, France.
Mr. Álvarez also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Enterprise System Committee (SEP) and in July 2016 became the Director of InvestChile, the agency tasked with attracting foreign investment to the country. During those years, he also served as a commissioner of the country’s National Productivity Commission.
In April 2022, Mr. Álvarez assumed the role of Executive Director for Chile and Ecuador on the Boards of Executive Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Inter-American Investment Corporation.
