Michael Sarty has served as Alternate Executive Director for Canada at the Inter-American Development Bank since August 2026.
Michael brings over a decade of experience in economic analysis and policy development within the Government of Canada. In his most recent role, he helped establish Canada's first sovereign wealth fund. He previously represented Canada at the Paris Club, leading debt restructuring negotiations and advancing global sovereign debt priorities during Canada's 2025 G7 Presidency. Earlier in his career, Michael advised the Prime Minister and Cabinet on economic development policy.
Michael has lectured on international macroeconomics at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has spoken on sovereign debt and global finance at forums including the World Bank and the Paris Forum.
Michael received an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Master of Arts from the University of Ottawa. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and daughter.
