Salomé Martínez has more than 30 years of experience in development cooperation, with government institutions, international organizations, and multilateral banks.
Prior to joining the IDB in 2023, she worked with USAID (2000-2004), the United Nations (2004-2011), and the Government of El Salvador, where she coordinated the portfolio of strategic projects with the United States of America (2012-2018). She also served as Adviser to the Executive Director for Central America, Mexico, Spain, and Venezuela at the World Bank Group (2018-2023).
She studied International Relations at the University of El Salvador; Political Science at the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas; and is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Management and Business Sciences at the Central American Institute of Public Administration.
She is originally from Chinameca, in the department of San Miguel in eastern El Salvador. She is the mother of two children and is in the first generation in her family to attend college. She has always balanced her professional development with volunteering for different causes and currently serves on the Board of Directors of La Clinica del Pueblo in Washington, D.C.
