Alberto Cogliati Alternate Executive Director

Alberto Cogliati is a senior executive with over thirty years of international experience in financial and institutional affairs. He is a Director in the Bank of Italy, and has been seconded on several occasions to the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Directorate General for International Relations. Throughout his career, he has held pivotal roles in banking supervision, international relations, and, for the MEF, in multilateral organizations and development institutions.

Alberto Cogliati has focused his contributions on financial strategies, risk management, and process improvement. He played a key role in Italy’s joining the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) as a shareholder, serving as Italy’s first non-resident board representative. He has participated in the negotiations for the merger of the Asian Development Fund into the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and served as Executive Director for Italy and Chair of the Audit Committee at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). From 2020 to 2024, he has served at IFAD as its first Chief Risk Officer, at the Associate Vice President level. He has led the establishment of the enterprise risk management function, including the creation of a new risk management policy, of the risk appetite and the design of new processes and procedures. During his tenure, IFAD has achieved and maintained the AA+ rating from S&P and Fitch.

Earlier in his career, Alberto Cogliati served as Deputy Chief Representative and Chief Analyst at the Bank of Italy’s Tokyo Representative Office for Asia (1999–2015), worked in the Banking Supervision Department at the Bank of Italy’s Rome headquarters (1989–1999), and has held roles as a bond trader and credit analyst at Banca Nazionale del Lavoro (1986–1989).

He holds a Laurea (cum laude) in Monetary Economics from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” with a thesis on monetary policies and inflation in Latin America, and an International Baccalaureate Diploma from the United World College of the Atlantic, UK. Alberto Cogliati is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Services Auditor, and Certified Fraud Examiner.
