Established in 1998, the IDB Community Relations Program is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the Latin American and Caribbean communities in the Greater Washington, D.C., area.
Our mission is to align the Bank’s corporate social responsibility initiatives with local organizations that make a positive impact through the Improving Lives grant, coordinated volunteer initiatives, and in-kind donations.

The Improving Lives Grant supports local organizations dedicated to serving Latin American and Caribbean community members in the Greater Washington, D.C., area. Each year, 10 organizations are awarded a $25,000 grant to either launch new projects or enhance existing programs.

Our in-kind donations program provides essential surplus equipment to member organizations. In 2023 alone, we donated over 3,000 items including computers, laptops, monitors, printers, electronics, furniture, office supplies, artwork, and kitchen equipment. These donations support the sustainability and growth of our partner organizations.

The IDB Volunteer Program offers skills-based pro-bono volunteerism, where IDB volunteers use their expertise to collaborate with and strengthen local organizations. Our volunteers are passionate about making a positive impact in the community.
Our aim is to achieve development in a sustainable, climate-friendly way.
Across the world, the IDB's country offices work toward the common goal of improving lives in Latin America and the Caribbean.
