Strategy and Projects

The IDB’s strategy with Honduras for 2019-2022 aims to drive higher and more inclusive growth by implementing coordinated actions that enhance human capital, improve infrastructure and access to finance, and increase resilience to climate change.
To achieve these goals, the Bank focuses on three strategic pillars:

  • Strengthening Fiscal Institutions and Enhancing Public Spending Efficiency: Building robust fiscal institutions and optimizing the efficiency of public expenditure.
  • Accumulating Human Capital: Investing in education and skills development to build a capable and skilled workforce.
  • Expanding Productive Opportunities: Creating and expanding opportunities for economic development and job creation.

The strategy prioritizes targeted and coordinated interventions in critical sectors such as education, health, and transport, especially in areas with high poverty levels, to address gaps in social and productive services effectively.

Following the protocols established in the current guidelines for country strategies, the IDB Group (IDBG) and the Government of Honduras agreed to update the Country Strategy, which will remain valid until December 31, 2026. The key actions identified include climate change adaptation, improving water and sanitation services, and boosting the productive sector, in addition to the ongoing priority areas.
