Supporting Sustainable and Efficient Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) Projects in LAC Transition Economies
The main objective of the proposed action is to provide support to PPP projects in LAC transitioning economies (European Commission definition), to facilitate the preparation and implementation of sustainable and efficient PPPs in the infrastructure sector, through supporting identification, selection, and preparation activities for infrastructure projects to be implemented through a PPP scheme. This action will finance studies required for the proper preparation (a more important than ever activity, due to the lack of resources generated by COVID-19) of individual PPP projects (sub-projects), including the project design, the preparation of documents, the review for funding and/or tendering, and studies related to the project's pre-feasibility and feasibility (technical, financial, environmental, social, institutional and legal). Results will be presented during the PPP Americas 2021, to ensure the Donor's visibility.

The Impact of War on External Financing in Latin America and the Caribbean
Since March of 2022, the war between Russia and Ukraine has significantly impacted the global economy, affecting recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and reducing or halting growth in most of the world’s regions. By disrupting the supply of agricultural and energy commodities, it has also fuelled inflation, which was already running hot before the war

Estimating the Potential Economic Impact of Haiti’s 2021 Earthquake
This paper employs a simple methodology to estimate the potential economic damages of the 2021 earthquake in Haiti. The country registered a magnitude 7.2 earthquake off the South Coast on August 14, 2021, that resulted in 2,248 deaths, 12,763 injured and substantial damages to houses and other infrastructure. An additional 329 persons remain missing. We estimate economic damages using econometric techniques and a dataset on natural disasters across a wide range of countries and over an extended time period. Based on this analysis, damages for the 2021 earthquake in Haiti are estimated to reach US$1.6 billion (9.6 percent of GDP) for a scenario with an impact of 2,500 dead or missing. We also generate confidence intervals on these results. We hope these early estimates will provide a useful input to the ongoing Post-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDNA) and will assist the government and its international partners plan efforts to assist the country in terms of relief and reconstruction.

Fiscal Policy and Climate Change: Recent Experiences of Finance Ministries in Latin America and the Caribbean
This publication presents recent experiences of finance ministries in the Latin American and Caribbean region in three crucial areas of intervention where climate change issues and the responsibilities of these ministries merge. In addition, it presents key elements for designing fiscal policies that contribute to sustainable growth. The three areas are: 1) Management of economic, fiscal, and financial risks associated with extreme weather events and climate change; 2) Challenges of the transition to low-carbon economies; and 3) Reorientation of public finances so they contribute to national objectives of resilience and decarbonization. Despite the risks and challenges involved in transitioning to green economies, the publication provides evidence indicating that both economic and employment opportunities can be achieved with efficient planning and implementation.
