The project consist in developing a micro franchise model trough the identification of successful small businesses, with possibilities of replicability. The execution agency has wide experience in supporting social entrepreneurs in sustainable matters, so it¿s very probable that the project could develop a business model who contribute to the develop of new entrepreneurs without the necessity of big amounts of capital. The project will contribute to improve the level of live of poor families and the development of small sustainable business.

Digitalización de las micro y pequeñas empresas y reducción de la desigualdad regional en México
A partir de tabulados de los Censos Económicos de 2014 y 2019 de México, este trabajo analiza la desigualdad entre unidades económicas en el acceso a las TIC y su relación con características de las empresas relacionadas al mercado laboral. En primer lugar, el estudio encuentra una fuerte correlación positiva entre la adopción de TIC y el tamaño de las unidades económicas; más aún, si bien las diferencias sectoriales en adopción de TIC son pequeñas entre las empresas medianas y grandes, éstas son mucho más marcadas entre las unidades económicas de hasta diez empleados. En cuanto a la dimensión regional, existe una elevada desigualdad entre entidades federativas en la adopción de TIC que se relaciona con la mayor y creciente densidad de empresas medianas y grandes en los estados del norte, y de micro y pequeñas empresas (MyPE) en los estados del sur-sureste. Por último, y contrario a la evidencia para países desarrollados, tanto entre los sectores económicos como entre las entidades federativas los datos muestran una correlación positiva del acceso de empresas a las TIC con la productividad laboral, calidad del empleo, salarios y participación del trabajo en el valor agregado. Desde el punto de vista de la política pública, los resultados sugieren que reducir la brecha digital entre las empresas mexicanas con foco en las MyPE, no sólo tendría impactos positivos en productividad sino también en la reducción de las desigualdades en el mercado laboral.

Welfare Effects of Capital Controls
This paper studies the effect of capital controls on misallocation and welfare in an economy with financial constraints. We build a general equilibrium model with heterogeneous firms, financial constraints and international trade and calibrate it to the Chilean economy. Since high-productivity and exporting firms need to borrow more to reach their optimal scale, capital controls that tax international borrowing hit them harder. As a result, misallocation increases relatively more for this group of firms, and for young firms that are still trying to reach their optimal scale. In terms of welfare, the model predicts a sizable aggregate loss of 2.39 percent when capital controls are introduced, with welfare decreasing twice as much for high-productivity firms. We empirically corroborate the main insights in terms of misallocation obtained from the model using Chilean manufacturing firm data from 1990 to 2007.

Productive Development Policies in the Mining Value Chain: Policy Opportunity and Alignment
Natural resources are an important source for development, and Latin America is one of the regions with the highest endowment. This calls for a reconsideration of resource-based development. Ambitious countries are moving toward high-value activities and more diversified economies to continue moving up the development ladder. In this sense, the resurgence of industrial policy can correct market failures and lead to the implementation of mission-oriented policies. This document analyzes opportunities to design and implement integrated policies through a revised taxonomy of mining-related policies, applying it to Australia, South Africa, and Chile. The mining sector has been a fertile field, characterized by high technology niches, growth, and innovation. Demand and supply policies can shape the path for development within the sector and across the economy due to the potential of vertical and horizontal linkages.

Innovation and Competitiveness in Mining Value Chains: The Case of Argentina
Argentina tiene un extraordinario potencial minero, con importantes cantidades de recursos geológicos no explorados ni explotados. A pesar de este potencial, el sector minero no energético sigue siendo de pequeña escala, pues solo representa el 0,5% del PIB y el 3,0% del total de las exportaciones, y se concentra principalmente en unas pocas regiones del país. Este documento estudia la cadena de valor de la minería metálica en Argentina, en particular las oportunidades y los retos que encuentran las empresas nacionales para participar en ella. Ofrece recomendaciones de políticas que pueden ayudar a mejorar las posibilidades de que estas empresas entren y luego se expandan, crezcan y diversifiquen sus clientes y mercados.

Effects of Innovation on Employment: An Analysis at the Firm Level in Bolivia
This study quantifies the impact of process and product innovation on employment growth in Bolivia by using microdata from a survey on innovation conducted in Bolivia in 2016. Following the model of Harrison, Jaumandreu, Mairesse, and Peters (2008) and the adaptations for Latin America of Crespi and Tacsir (2013) and Elejalde, Giuliodori, and Stucchi (2015), we demonstrate that employment growth is explained by product innovation. On the other hand, we find no evidence of a displacement effect due to process innovation. With respect to innovation and work composition, we observe that the reation of qualified employment is slightly favored over that of unqualified employment.
