Competitivity and Profitability of Milk Processing Plants Lèt Agogo

The general objective of the operation is to improve the competitiveness and profitability of 13 dairy-products micro-plants and, in turn, the income of the 700 cattle-breeders who supply the milk and/or the number of cattle-breeders involved. The specific objective is to increase the volumes and value-added of the dairy products processed in the micro-plants. The project contents the four following components :
1. Institutional reinforcement (expected result = the micro=plants operate as enterprises)
- To finalize the legal set-up and process of legalization of micro-plants
- To design a management system (finance, logistics, stock management) for micro-plants
- To train the staff of the micro-plants to implement the management procedures
- To design a business plan for each dairy micro-plant
- To design an expansion strategy for the Let Agogo network (i.e. opening of new micro-plants)
2. Development of new processes and products / cheese (expected result = the reduction of spoilage)
- To identify new processes and products adapted to the Haitian reality
- To identify the necessary equipment and to install them
- To train the staff of the micro-plants to implement the new processes
3. Quality control and standardization (expected result = a quality and standardization system is
functional)
- To design a quality control system
- To design a standardization guideline
- To train the staff of the micro-plants to implement the quality system procedures and to respect
the standardization norms
4. Marketing (expected result = the volume of sales increases)
- To up-date the 2004 market study and include a market study for cheese
- To design the micro-plant marketing strategy
- To train some staff of the micro-plants in marketing
- To design new packaging and some advertising media
- To participate in fairs and other events, to organize tastings in urban supermarkets
